How to get your research out there: publishing, promoting, and funding your research

Online – 2021

This workshop will be focused on writing: writing research papers, writing for social media to communicate your research, and writing to acquire funding and grants. Each of these are essential to disseminate and share your findings with the research community and the public. In different sessions, you will learn specific aspects about each of these tasks, how to target your audience, and get valuable insights. Throughout this interactive workshop we will draw on cutting edge examples and explore best practices as well as providing opportunities for discussion, exploration and development of your own research ideas related to this area.

During the two days, we will have three different sessions. All sessions will include interactive elements through which early career researchers can build their network.

• Using social media to share your research and build your networks

The aim of this interactive workshop is to support participants to explore ways to share their research and build their networks.
We will draw on examples from our own work, as well as those of others, and there will be lots of opportunities for discussion, and exploration and development of ideas.

Together we will explore the why, when, what, where and how of communicating your research, including:

• Developing a communication strategy
• Making your research accessible – to researchers, policy/decision-makers, funders, and the public
• Social media platforms, e.g. Twitter, YouTube, ResearchGate, SlideShare, LinkedIn
• Creative tools (especially the free ones!), e.g. infographics, animation, blogging, imagery
• Dealing with discomfort
• Networking, collaborating, advocating.

By the end of the session, participants will have created a toolbox they can use to help communicate and share their work.

• How to publish your research

The aim of this interactive workshop is to support participants in their research publication strategies.

In this workshop we will:

• Discuss the importance of creating a publication strategy or agenda
• Provide opportunities to develop a publication plan
• Develop knowledge in writing on scientific topics for a range of audiences.

In the third and final session, several panellists will share their experiences and advice on how to apply for grants and funding. Our panellists are well-established researchers in health psychology at different levels of their academic career. They will present their opinions on what makes a successful application and how to avoid potential pitfalls. Each of our panellists will give a short input, after which we will have plenty of time for your questions and discussions surrounding funding and grant applications.

Workshop fees

The fee for the workshop is €25. Details for payment, including deadlines, will be forwarded to you following successful acceptance.
