European Health Psychology Society

The European Health Psychology Society (EHPS) is a professional organisation formed to promote empirical and theoretical research in and applications of health psychology within Europe as well as the interchange of information related to health psychology with other associations throughout the world towards an international achievement of these aims.

To further its aims, the EHPS organises an annual conference, publishes journals, and facilitates Special Interest Groups.

The EHPS was formed subsequent to a first expert meeting at Tilburg (The Netherlands) in 1986. From 1988 annual conferences have been arranged which has established a common forum for a wide range of health psychologists to meet, exchange ideas and develop collaborative projects. The EHPS has close links with other international societies, such as the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and the European Federation of Professional Psychological Associations (EFPA). The EHPS is associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations (DPI/NGO).

Funds from the European Union ERASMUS programme have resulted in short training courses in health psychology for European postgraduate students. These have been held in Rome (Italy, 1991), Leiden (The Netherlands, 1993), St. Andrews (UK, 1993), Trier (Germany, 1994) and Leuven (Belgium, 1995).
